A little bit about us…

I’m Meg Metzger, and I have been making ceramics since the mid 1990s. I have been fortunate enough to be part of some wonderful studios, notably ClaySpace. As I expanded my craft, I realized that we ceramicists need more and better ways to bring our goods to market, so I decided to tack a brick and mortar store onto a communal ceramics studio. That’s how &mortar was born.

FAQs

  • Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park

  • Unfortunately, our studio is set up to cater to experienced ceramicists who can work autonomously. I recommend you check out ClaySpace or Gasworks, or one of the many other studios in Brooklyn that offers classes and room to grow.

  • We do not plan to offer classes.

  • 2 Electric Skutt kilns (cone 6)

    3 communal wheels

    1 wedging table

    1 slop sink

  • The studio will have 10 members.

  • We are carving out approximately 1/4 of our studio space to be a retail store, where members will be able to offer their works, alongside other handmade items such as jewelry and textiles. We will be open to the public several days per month. Our location on the fourth floor means does not lend itself to organic foot traffic, but we will advertise, set up a sandwich board outside, and will hold events regularly. We plan to expand our retail operation to a retail corridor within a couple of years. Members will be charged a fee well below market-rate on sales of items sold at the store.
